Hail is one of the costliest types of adverse weather, and unfortunately, most Calgarians are not fully aware of its damage potential. If your home was in the path of a hail storm in Calgary, your exterior should be inspected as soon as possible for hail damage.
Not all hail damage is easily visible. If left untreated, it could end up costing you down the road when your exterior starts to age faster than expected or you are selling your home and your home inspector finds hail damage.
Hail Damage 101
Hail can potentially damage your shingles, metals (eavestroughs/gutters) and exterior finishes.
Asphalt roofs are often the hardest hit as hail can bruise them and/or remove the granules which may cause them to age fast than normal. If your shingle is bruised, it is serious damage and will need to be replaced as soon as possible. If you do not want to go up on your roof to inspect it, take a look for granules on your deck or in your downspouts. If there is a larger amount than normal, call us to schedule a free inspection and we will take a detailed look.
If your home has metal eavestroughs, gutters, downspouts or exposed valleys, it will be easy to spot the damage as you will see dents. Be sure to check the entire perimeter of your house as sometimes hail only damages a portion of it, depending on which way it fell.
Siding is another part of your home that is often damaged in a hail storm. Aluminum siding is easily dented and the damage may be visible to the untrained eye. Vinyl siding is more durable but still has the potential to be punctured or cracked with large enough hail.

If your home insurance covers hail damage you have the option of using one of their preferred contractors or getting a co-payable cheque and choosing your own trusted contractor. Most insurance companies require claims to be started within a certain time frame following the storm so it is important to make sure you are within this window if you plan to make a claim.
In the event that your claim was denied by your insurance adjuster but you want a second opinion, Hubbard Roofing & Exteriors can create a detailed loss report for you and even meet your adjuster on site to review the report.

Repair VS. Replacement
During our free inspection, we will thoroughly discuss our findings and advise whether we would suggest a repair or full replacement. Unfortunately, not all roofs are good candidates for a repair but we will discuss all options and associated costs in detail.
